Cheer Up With a Sad Song – ©
Lyrics by Joyce Jedlicka - Music by Mike Terry

Some people say… “Don’t write sad songs,
They’re such a downer, you know,”
But I tell them… my heart belongs
To the lonely ones who suffer so.

A happy song… might mock their pain,
But a sad song lets it out.
Pictures of sunlight… can’t stop the rain,
Or roll back the clouds of doubt.

Someone has to speak for the lonely,
Who may have feelings they can’t express.
Maybe they lost their one and only,
Or made a mistake they can’t confess.

Maybe… a loved one died,
Or a marriage fell apart.
Maybe someone… cheated and lied,
And it’s time to make a new start.

So if you’re… feeling down,
Let me lift you up… with a sad song.
If everything’s… going wrong,
Cheer up with a sad song.

I write sad songs just to say
‘Someone is thinking of you.
You’re not the first to hurt this way,
Others have suffered too.

It may be… hard to believe, But someday your broken heart will mend.
It’s a message of hope… that listeners can receive,
When the songwriter is their friend.

I write happy songs sometimes,
But happy people will be okay.
I’d rather spend my rhymes
Helping the lost and lonely find their way.

Time for… me to run along,
And try to write a good sad song.
Sometimes you… just can’t go wrong,
If you cheer up with a sad song.
