The Curse of Mexico –
Lyrics by Jane Shields (C) Music by Mike Terry

On the night I first saw him there was danger in the sky
He was looking for salvation on that cold and lonely night

His hair was black as Ravens; there was fire in his eyes
He looked harder than an oak tree and was ready for a fight

And if you ever saw him he would chill you to the bone
The look of steel in his eyes would make you run for home
Some said he was the devil and others said a ghost
But everybody knew he was the curse of Mexico

The legend of the stranger started sometime long ago
When he got into a bar room fight so the story goes
A gang of wanted outlaws left the stranger half for dead
And on that floor he swore that he would paint the country red

For five years he would roam the plains looking for gang
Waiting for the day that he would finally see them hang
Until he came across a small town hidden in a barren land
Where a horse was tied up to a rail with an outlaw’s brand

And if you ever saw him he would chill you to the bone
The look of steel in his eyes would make you run for home
Some said he was the devil and others said a ghost
But everybody knew he was the curse of Mexico

He walked into a bar room and looked across the floor
There was ten men on his left and on the right a dozen more
You could’ve heard a pin drop as he walked up to the bar
And opened up his long coat to reveal a silver star

He turned towards the outlaw, looked him right between the eyes
Told the man to make his peace with the angels in the sky
And then he stepped into the street and the stranger gave a yell
And on a dime he turned and drew and sent the man to hell

And if you ever saw him he would chill you to the bone
The look of steel in his eyes would make you run for home
Some said he was the devil and others said a ghost
But everybody knew he was the curse of Mexico

Now next time you ride into town, take some good advice
Look out for the stranger with eyes as cold as ice
Don’t turn your back or start to run, never look him in the eye
Just pray he doesn’t send you to the man up in the sky

And if you ever saw him he would chill you to the bone
The look of steel in his eyes would make you run for home
Some said he was the devil and others said a ghost
But everybody knew he was the curse of Mexico
